FIABCI brings together real estate professionals on the local,
national, and international levels to learn about real estate
markets around the world and to do business together.
Some local councils, such as the Atlanta Council, meet
monthly (on the 2nd Wednesday of the month) and frequently have
speakers from the foreign consulates in Atlanta, such as Sheylla
J. Bingham, Consul General of Costa Rica in Atlanta, who spoke
in July. The newly energized Phoenix Council held a weekend
retreat focused on international networking and marketing.
Other councils meet quarterly or every other month and may use
local real estate experts, such as the Chairman of the City Planning
Commission for New York City, who spoke to the New York Local
Council. The programs of the Dallas/Fort Worth Council
underscore the broad base of FIABCI and the various professionals
involved in international real estate transactions. Chris Hannah,
FRICS, Director of Research for the L&B Group, a German investment
and advisory firm, answered "Where in the World to Invest"
and shared transaction costs in Europe and risk factors in
other countries with his audience. Michael W. McKee, Vice President
of the Dallas office of Banque Nationale de Paris, explained the
function of a foreign bank in the U.S. and how such a bank could
be a resource to FIABCI-USA members.
On of our new councils, Boca Raton, even included the arts
in their first General Meeting, which attracted 30 members and
guests to the Boca Country Club. Maestro Crafton Beck, of the
Boca Pops, addressed the group on the art of romancing Boca Raton
to your clients. J. David Pena of AIS America Latina spoke on
how to help your client get resident status in a timely manner.
International networking preceded the meeting.
This past year has been particularly successful on the local level,
with the formation of new councils - such as San Diego, Greenville
(SC), Boca Raton (FL), and the Lower Gulf Coast (FL) - and
the strengthening of others.
